I'm with Neil Gray on this one. Marievale can be frustrating sometimes with it's lack of activity. Then at other times it's so frenetic you just don't know where to point the camera. Here is a selection of shots from one of those good days all taken from the Hadeda Hide!

Hottentot Teals - The Staggler

White-Throated Swallow

Grey-Headed Gull - Flyby

Grey-Headed Gull (Imm.) - Touch-Down

Pied Kingfisher - Splash Without the Cache

Pied Kingfisher - Landing Spot

Malachite Kingfisher - Gotcha!

Malachite Kingfisher - Missed

Malachite Kingfisher - Emerging

Malachite Kingfisher - Reflection

The technical detail for each of these photo's can be found at my deviantArt web site if you wish to know more.

Truely amazing!! Most of us rarely see an african rail, and you have the most amazing picture of one, among other things!!!

One question, how did you manage to get the white throated swallow, pied kingfisher and jvn. malachite all to sit on the same perch? And how far were you from that perch?

:D
That perch is right outside the Hadeda Hide at Marievale. From camera to perch is probably about 3 meters at most I think?
Thanks a lot mossie.

Hi Ian,

Great photos!! Just one comment... your photo labeled Hottentot Teal and Ruff - the Ruff is actually a Marsh Sandpiper.

Kind Regards
Trevor
