I had a scan through the garden bird lists on gardenbirds.co.za, and found that there was not a single person who has reported Cape Bunting on their garden list in Gauteng (out of 63 lists), and only 1, nationwide (All RSA lists).

So I guess my wife should feel rather special, since she saw one in our garden (orchards, jhb) the other day.

The fun thing, is that the bird in question was seen happily on our rockery, which is made of lots of magaliesberg rocks (mostly artificial). So I guess if you make the habitat, the birds will come :D

Anybody else seen them in a JHB garden before?

Mossie

Only in other people's gardens while'st traversing Northcliff hill, an awesome birding spot close to me for some interesting rocky slope specialists. (Sentinel and Cape Rock Thrush, Cape and Cinnamon-breasted Bunting, Mountain Wheatear, Rock Martin etc...)

Cheers,
Doug

It was a long time ago that you posted this, but are the sentinel thrushes still on northcliff hill?
