Hi Rudi,

I have seen them a few times at Marievale Bird Sanctuary near Nigel. If you enter the reserve and drive all the way round to Shelduck Hide and stop on at the corner of the mine dump closest to the hide where the road bends away from the boundary fence towards the hide.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Abe

Abe,

I quite agree. I have had good luck with Horus Swifts there, actually managing photos from the path out to Shelduck Hide itself.

Hi all,

There is only a shell of Shelduck hide left (pardon the pun). Last I heard vagrants had taken the roofing and benches from the hide. Also, rather go over a weekend or in a group as there have been incidents of theft and harassment.

Perhaps join the "Friends of Marievale" FaceBook site for regular updates. https://www.facebook.com/groups/3216860 ... 7/?fref=ts

Cheers

Hi Werner,

So terribly sad and so utterly predictable!

I really feel for the folk trying to maintain Marievale !!

Cheers,
Gordon

Werner,

I can only echo Gordon's comments. I regarded Marievale as my "home patch" while still living in SA. I ticked off Black-tailed Godwit, Slaty Egret and Baillon's Crake, among 152 species seen there over some 15 years.

I can only hope that it does not become a completely "no go zone".
