      Hi All,

Our recent bird-watching trip to Atkinson Dam provided an extraordinary spectacle that will be etched in our memories for a long time. The sighting of several thousand Little Black Cormorants fishing together was a breathtaking experience. The sheer number of birds and their coordinated movement created a mesmerizing natural display.

Upon arriving at Atkinson Dam, we were greeted by an astonishing sight: a continuous line of Little Black Cormorants stretching across the water. The line of birds must have extended for over 2 kilometers, an impressive display of avian cooperation and synchronization. We estimated that there were as many as 10,000 birds present, creating a dense and lively ribbon of activity on the water’s surface.

As the cormorants moved across the dam, they formed a coordinated fishing party, diving and resurfacing in unison. The sight of thousands of birds diving simultaneously, creating ripples and splashes, was a dynamic and captivating scene. The sound of their wings flapping and the water churning added to the sensory experience, making it even more immersive.

The behavior of the Little Black Cormorants was fascinating to observe. They demonstrated remarkable coordination, moving as a single, cohesive unit. This mass fishing effort was a testament to their social structure and efficiency in foraging. The birds would dive almost in perfect harmony, disappearing beneath the water’s surface and then reappearing, their sleek bodies glistening in the sunlight.

The light conditions were ideal, with the sun casting a gentle glow over the water. This not only enhanced our visual experience but also made it easier to capture stunning videos of the event. The sight of the cormorants’ dark bodies contrasted against the shimmering water created striking images that captured the essence of this natural phenomenon.

Filming the mass fishing event of the Little Black Cormorants was both challenging and rewarding. The sheer number of birds made it a challenge to try video just how many birds were present. The line of birds stretching across the dam created a dramatic composition, emphasizing the scale of the gathering.

We managed to capture several remarkable images that highlight the coordination and sheer number of the cormorants. These video clips serve as a vivid reminder of the spectacular sight we witnessed and will undoubtedly be some of the highlights of our bird-watching portfolio.

Our visit to Atkinson Dam was an extraordinary experience, highlighted by the stunning sight of several thousand Little Black Cormorants fishing together.
